Out of the Matrix, Into the Light

Microsoft Excel is brilliant, but it’s not for running a business on. It’s neither a robust database nor a business intelligence platform. It’s for crunching numbers, it’s a calculator, it's for book keeping and the analysis behind business intelligence. When you have defined your data requirements you leave Excel. Think about it, apart from micro businesses does anyone use Excel for their accounts? Does anyone use Excel for CRM? Does anyone use Excel for tracking their projects and client communications? No, and the reason why is because those use cases are well defined and well understood.

So we walk away from Excel and instead we use Sage, Xero, OnePageCRM, Hubspot, Salesforce, Basecamp, and other software designed to do the job properly. We have a defined user interface that ensures you put the right data in the right place, that the invoice matches the payment, the deal matches the proposal, and the client knows you are waiting for them to make a decision. These software packages have reports that tell you how much money you are making, what your sales pipeline is worth, and how which of your clients match the 80/20 rule.

Who We Are

FXL is a trading name of Perfidious Albert Limited. Ruairi Browne is the director and lead developer for FXL. His background is a 25-year career in building business applications for exactly the scenarios outlined - tracking data and information and reporting on their movements.

Who You Are

Ideally you will be a private company. Ideally our main contact will have a decision making capacity and your organisation will need to be open to change and innovation.

Previous Projects

Ruairi has worked with Microsoft in Dublin, Fintrax in Galway (they do all the VAT refunds for tourists across the world), An Garda Siochana on their firearms licensing database, and numerous large software projects on behalf of other companies. Ruairi wrote a gas and electricity trading system which was used by GE Power and Veridian Power (power generating stations) to accept orders from Eirgrid, purchase gas to produce the electricity, and then wholesale the electricity to the highest bidder.

Current active projects we are working on include:

  • A highly complex hotel management platform for Windward in Dublin.
  • A business operations platform for Rathlin Ferry.
  • A resource management system for schools and colleges.

All of these systems replaced monolithic Excel workbooks.
